The Energy Finance Group at UT is an organization of MBA students at the McCombs School of Business who are interested in pursuing careers in the energy industry.
We aim to establish the McCombs School of Business at UT as the premier energy MBA program by educating current members and providing access to our vast network of energy alumni and job opportunities. Sending members to top investment banks, energy producers and consulting firms, we promote leaders from within the energy powerhouse that is the State of Texas.
The organization has historically been associated with Oil & Gas finance, and we continue to have a strong focus on conventional energy. However, we work closely with the campus Clean Tech Group to promote energy addition and aid educational efforts surrounding the Energy Transition.
Before attending business school, Henry worked for Repsol in various engineering and operational roles across drilling & completions throughout their North American portfolio, primarily for the Eagle Ford and Marcellus business units. Henry began his career as a field engineer with Schlumberger before transitioning to Liberty Energy’s Permian Basin team, focusing on unconventional completions.
Originally from Dallas, TX, Henry holds a degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and is currently pursuing a career in Energy Investment Banking.
Prior to joining the Full-Time MBA Program at the McCombs School of Business, Catherine spent the last seven years at Linden Advisors, a Global & Independent Alternative Investment Management Company located in New York City. During her tenure, Catherine was promoted from a Middle Office Analyst to an Investment Professional & Research Analyst where she conducted both Fundamental Research & Quantitative Analysis across a broad range of sectors with a specific focus on Offshore Drilling. Prior to joining Linden Advisors, Catherine worked as a Securitization Advisory Consultant at Deloitte focusing on Collateralized Loan Obligations.
Catherine holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Fordham University, Gabelli School of Business in New York and is currently pursuing a career in Oil & Gas.
Prior to attending McCombs, Cade worked for Accenture LLP for six years as part of the Technology Strategy and Advisory practice, helping both public and private companies transform their technology infrastructure and organizations to achieve long-term, sustainable innovation and growth. He has worked with clients across numerous industries, including Energy, Oilfield Services, Utilities, Industrials, Healthcare, Life Sciences, Consumer Products, and Professional Services.
Cade grew up in Houston, TX and holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University, with a focus on Aerospace. He is pursuing a career in Commercial Oil and Gas based in Houston, TX.
Pete Bechtol is an MBA candidate at Texas McCombs School of Business. He previously served as a Floor Assistant for Majority Leader Steve Scalise in the U.S. House of Representatives. He oversaw day-to-day floor operations and employed effective communication and decision-making skills to manage the legislative process. Pete also served as the PAC & Member Relations Manager for the NRCC where he built strong relationships with Members of Congress and their staffs.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Pete holds a dual-bachelor’s degree in History and in Plan II Honors. Pete now resides in Austin, Texas where he attends McCombs School of Business and is pursuing a career in Energy Investment Banking.
Prior to McCombs, John spent seven years in Supply Chain Strategy. He began his career in the Aerospace industry where he spent five years as the supply chain lead for the F35 Joint Strike Fighter engine testing facilities in Norway, the Netherlands, and Turkey. Afterwards, he transitioned into Consumer Goods working for Grupo Bimbo, the world’s largest baked products manufacturer, where he engaged North American leadership teams to ideate and execute Value Chain Transformation and Automation initiatives.
John is from Houston, Texas and holds a BBA in Supply Chain Management from Texas A&M University Mays Business School.
Prior to joining McCombs, Javier spent over nine years at KIO Networks, an I Squared Capital portfolio company and the leading IT infrastructure and data center services provider in Mexico. During his tenure, he advanced from intern to Vice President, specializing in corporate finance, FP&A, and M&A. Javier has extensive experience in corporate restructurings, asset transactions, and both buy-side and sell-side M&A deals across Mexico and LATAM.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from ITESM Mexico City and is currently pursuing a career in Energy Investment Banking.
Jose Luis Gutierrez graduated from a highly recognized law school in Mexico City and has worked with top tier law firms for over +5 years in their M&A/Corporate teams. Jose has advised family-owned businesses, venture capital and private equity firms and institutional investors on complex M&A transactions including public and private M&A, spin-offs, asset sales, corporate restructurings, joint ventures, and strategic alliances.
Prior to attending UT McCombs, Alvaro Padilla worked at UBS AG as an Investment Advisor, where he specialized in designing investment strategies in equities, fixed income, and private markets for Ultra-High-Net-Worth clients. Before UBS AG, Alvaro served as an equities and fixed income trader at MG Capital, managing buyback funds for publicly traded companies and facilitating their inclusion in the IPC Mexican Index.
Originally from Monterrey, Mexico, Alvaro holds a Bachelor’s degree in Financial Management from ITESM. He is pursuing a career in Energy Investment Banking in Houston, TX, leveraging his financial expertise and passion for the energy sector.
Before attending McCombs, Carder worked at Halliburton for over six years, serving as a DevOps Engineer and a Senior Field Engineer in completions. During his time there, he managed multi-million-dollar projects, drove operational efficiencies, and implemented data-driven strategies to optimize performance and reduce costs.
Carder grew up in Dallas, Texas, and holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. He is currently pursuing a career in Energy Investment Banking based in Houston, Texas.
Charles is a member of the McCombs MBA Class of 2026, concentrating his studies on Private Equity Finance and Investment Management. Prior to McCombs, Charles was an acquisitions associate for LURIN Advisors, a vertically integrated real estate redevelopment company specializing in acquiring and transforming distressed and stressed workforce multifamily housing in path-of-progress markets. Prior to LURIN, he worked at J.P. Morgan Asset Management where he focused on Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities (CMBS) Asset Management and Originations.
Charles is originally from Houston, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in economics. Charles is currently pursuing a career in Energy Investment Banking.
Max is a member of the McCombs Class of 2026 concentrating in Energy Finance. Prior to McCombs, Max worked for Capstone, a DC-based private equity consulting firm specializing in regulatory analysis. Prior to Capstone, he worked at the Department of the Treasury in international affairs, primarily focusing on macroeconomic analysis of western European nations, spearheading the government’s relationship with the IMF, and international financial regulation.
Max grew up across the Mountain West and graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with a dual degree in economics and political science. He is currently pursuing a career in Oil and Gas FP&A based in Houston, TX.
